This week I travelled down to Miami for my first ever visit to the coastal city. What I knew of Miami was the crazy party scene, art deco architecture and beautiful beaches. Typical of most of my travels, I was on the hunt for the cool, gritty artsy area that attracts the creative type. I knew Miami had some cool street art, but I did not expect it to be as amazing as it is.
Welcome to Wynwood: the once Puerto Rican neighborhood that has been infiltrated by hipsters and artists galore. The graffiti scene is absolutely out of control, taking no prisoners when it comes to the artists’ canvas. Although I fell in love with almost every single mural I laid eyes on, below are the ones that I connected with the most.
If you visit Wynwood, head over to 24th and 2nd and stop into Panther Coffee. Or, if you take your coffee shops a little lower key and also forgot to buy your friend some flowers (or need to get some coworking time in), go to Sprout at 26th and Miami. Then, snake through the streets discovering the public art, one by one. Along the way you’ll find great little shops, galleries and restaurants… and you won’t even think twice about that beach you thought you’d spend all day at.
